Dr. Justin L. Owen Board Certified Neurosurgeon

Northshore neurosurgeon, Dr. Justin L. Owen knew he wanted to be a doctor since he was a young boy growing up in Arkansas. He went on to study at Hendrix College, known for its strong medical school acceptance rate. He later went to medical school at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences before heading down to New Orleans for seven years of training at the LSU Health Sciences Center.

Dr. Owen describes himself as a perfectionist. “I want great outcomes for each of my patients just as I would for my own family. I work hard to try and make that happen in every aspect of my practice, whether it’s in the operating room during surgery, in the clinic, when considering surgery, or even through trying to help a patient avoid surgery.”

Dr. Owen treats patients with brain and spine conditions including brain and spine tumors, chronic neck and back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, compression fractures, and traumatic injuries.

Other than surgery, Dr. Owen is a lifelong musician and lifelong martial artist. He is also a former and current professional paintball player.

Dr. Owen is trained in Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery. This approach provides smaller incisions, reduces the risk of infection, minimizes postoperative discomfort, and results in shorter recovery times.

Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery can help patients dealing with sciatica, herniated discs, neck or back pain, degenerative disc disease, stenosis, vertebral compression fractures, and spondylolisthesis.

Unlike traditional, “open” spine surgery, entry and repair to the damaged disc or vertebrae is achieved without harming nearby muscles and tissues. Less muscle and tissue damage results in less pain and a faster recovery. Click here to learn more.

Certifications

Dr. Owen completed medical school the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and completed a General Surgery Internship there. He completed his Neurosurgery Residency at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans as the Chief Resident.

Dr. Owen is board certified in Neurological Surgery. He has been trained and licensed in Total Disc Replacements of the cervical spine.
