Avoid Back Pains While Wrapping Gifts
I’m not sure about you, but something I have always strived for every Christmas is to do a gift-wrapping job my mother would be envious of. It’s not an easy task because my mom is the craftiest and most talented person I know. But still, every year I try to at least make sure the presents under my tree look as I like to say “present-able.” (See what I did there ;))
Getting into the “gift-wrapping mindset” can often lead me to some pretty strange sitting positions that could make any person sore for days afterwards. It’s even more likely for people who struggle with chronic back pain.
-
Never sit on the floor: You probably will not have any back support and the bending and twisting with wreck your back.
- Set up a gift-wrapping station: A table or surface large enough to roll out the paper. It’s important to remember a chair with decent back support and to have good posture while wrapping. Bending too much or slouching over won’t do your back any favors.
- Simplify your wrapping plans: Not every gift needs to be wrapped in paper with tape. I find gift backs with some decorative paper inside are easier to wrap and they look just as good under the tree.
- Do a little at a time: I am one of those people that likes to “get in the zone” and knock out all the wrapping at once. I need to use it before the cat gets to it! If you are having issues with your back, then that is unwise. Plan to wrap only a few presents at a time, so you aren’t straining your back for a long period of time.
- Stretch: BEFORE and AFTER you get to the gift-wrapping, do a few stretches to work out the muscles in your back.
