David Harris has always been a very active person. He’s played golf for 72 years. He’s taken part in several pickleball championships – including a showing at the National Senior Olympics.
“I am always doing something. I am not one of these people who is going to sit on the couch and watch TV.”
Everything was going great until David experienced a shooting pain going down his right leg. He tried all of the conservative approaches to treating the pain. He started with steroids and went through all of the pain management procedures. Before long, the pain was in both legs, and he was dealing with a serious case of spinal stenosis.
“I literally could not stand up for like 15 seconds without immense pain.”
Finally, David decided he needed to have this fixed, permanently. He went to AVALA Spine and met with Dr. Jeremy James, who outlined a surgical treatment program.
“The miracle ended up being Dr. Jeremy, James, Garrett Simoneaux and the rest of the surgical staff at AVALA because when I was got out of surgery, I had absolutely no pain. I mean, I had the pills for, gabapentin and oxycodone and all that stuff, so I didn’t need it. I mean, I was pain free!”
For the three months following the procedure, the hardest thing for David was to make sure he was taking his recovery slowly. He started with walking and worked his way back to the pickleball court.
“I have every bit of my flexibility back, I look forward to playing pickleball. I look forward to playing golf. I look forward to singing in choir.”
Now, David is looking forward to many more pickleball matches and rounds of golf he can enjoy, pain-free!
